Abstract
Background: World Health Organization (WHO) data estimates that in 2030 Indonesia will be the country with the 4th highest number of diabetes mellitus sufferers, namely 21.3, after India 79.4, China 42.3, the United States 30.3. The development of diabetes mellitus in the world is quite fast, it is estimated that 1 in 12 adults in the world suffer from diabetes mellitus and every 7 seconds a person in the world dies due to diabetes mellitus. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus shows an increase with increasing age of sufferers, reaching a peak at the age of 55-64 years and decreasing after passing that age range. There are 463 million people aged 20-79 years in the world suffering from diabetes mellitus. Objective: to determine the effect of giving Moringa leaf ants to reduce blood glucose levels in elderly people with diabetes mellitus. Method: Research design uses a quasi-experimental method (Quast Experiment) with one group pretest and posttest without control. The sample used was purposive sampling of 8 respondents. Data was collected using pre and post observation sheet media. Results: measuring the blood sugar frequency of 8 elderly people before being given Moringa leaves was a minimum value of 250, maximum 275, mean 159.63 and SD 7.782 and after being given Moringa leaves the minimum value was 242, maximum 270, mean 253.75 and SD 8.498. Based on the normality test using Shapiro Wilk, the pretest variable sig = 0.516 > 0.05 and the posttest sig = 0.695 > 0.05 (p < a = 0.05). Conclusion: There is an effect of giving Moringa leaf smoothies on reducing blood glucose levels in elderly people with diabetes mellitus.
