The Effect Of VEDIKAP (Digital Breast Cancer Educational Video) On Cadres’ Knowledge And Skills Regarding Breast Self Examination
Abstract
Background: Globally, breast cancer ranks as the second most common type of cancer, with approximately 2.3 million cases worldwide. Suspected breast cancer cases in one of the working area of Puskesmas in East Lombok in 2023, there were 14 cases (26%), and in 2024, there were 16 cases (28%). One of the causes of the high incidence of breast cancer is the low level of knowledge and understanding about Breast Self-Examination (BSE). VEDIKAP audiovisual media is considered an effective method for providing information to improve the knowledge and skills of health cadres. This study aimed to determine the effect of VEDIKAP on cadres’ knowledge and skills regarding SADARI. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population and sample consisted of all 51 health cadres, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: Before the intervention, cadres had poor knowledge, while after the intervention all cadres demonstrated good knowledge. In terms of skills, before the intervention the cadres were categorized as unskilled, whereas after the intervention most became skilled. Statistical analysis showed a p-value of 0.001 (p ? 0.05), indicating that VEDIKAP had a significant effect on cadres’ knowledge and skills regarding SADARI. Conclusion: VEDIKAP significantly influenced the knowledge and skills of health cadres regarding SADARI within the working area of Puskesmas in East Lombok in 2025. It can be used as a digital educational medium to improve early detection of breast cancer through SADARI.
